How do you generate a quiz from a PDF?

Upload the PDF of your course into Study-Genie, choose the quiz format, and the app reads the document before writing any questions. They cover what your chapter actually contains: definitions, dates, formulas, the mechanisms your lecturer explained. You answer, then get marked question by question, with an explanation of what was wrong with the option you picked.

A PDF is not the only starting point. You can upload a Word document, a spreadsheet, a slide deck, a photo of handwritten notes whose text is recognised automatically, or an audio recording of a lecture, which is transcribed before use. Which difficulty should you choose?

Match the difficulty to where you are in your revision. On a first pass through a new chapter, an easy level checks that the vocabulary and definitions are in place. Closer to the test, move up a level: questions then ask you to apply a rule to a case rather than recognise it. A quiz you never hesitate on has stopped teaching you anything.

Discomfort is the useful signal. If you get almost everything wrong, drop a level and reread your notes first, because a quiz does not replace the first read of a course. If you never get anything wrong, raise the difficulty or move on, otherwise you are spending revision time on what you already know.

What makes a good multiple-choice question?

A good multiple-choice question makes sense without reading the options, and its wrong answers are plausible. If the three distractors are absurd, you tick the right box without learning anything. Effective distractors reproduce the classic mistakes of that topic: the neighbouring formula, the date a century out, the definition that is close but incomplete.

Check as well that only one answer is defensible, that the wording does not give the answer away, and that the question targets a real idea rather than an incidental detail. If a question looks ambiguous, ask the AI tutor: it has your document in context and can point you back to the exact passage.

What should you do with the questions you got wrong?

Your score matters less than what you do with the wrong answers. Read the explanation, then restate the rule in your own words without looking at the course: that retrieval, not rereading, is what leaves a trace. Turn each mistake into a flashcard, and retake the same quiz a few days later rather than the same evening.

Testing yourself and then spacing the recalls is the mechanism behind the testing effect and Ebbinghaus's forgetting curve: each successful recall after a delay slows forgetting more than an immediate reread. Which subjects and levels suit quizzes?

Quizzes work whenever a course holds stable facts to recall: dates and actors in history, definitions and cycles in biology, vocabulary in languages, cases and statutes in law, mechanisms in physics. In maths they are best used to check definitions, theorems and the conditions under which they apply, not to replace a written exercise.

Levels run from secondary school to university. A GCSE student tests one chapter at a time, an A-level student works through a whole syllabus, a medical or law student trains on the very format the exam will use. What happens to the document you upload?

Your document stays in your own workspace: it is used to generate what you ask for, and to give the AI tutor context when you ask a question about it. It is not used for advertising, and the AI providers involved do not reuse it to train their models, in line with the terms that apply to their business interfaces.

Your content is kept until you delete it. You can remove a document, a quiz, or your entire account from the Account page on the web or the Account screen in the mobile app, and that deletion is immediate and permanent. The full detail is set out in the privacy policy.
